The second Global Week for Action on NCDs [1] held in September 2019 built on momentum of the movement from 2018 and was an exciting sign of things to come, with millions of people reached around the world through the campaign. Ten NCD alliances’ 2019 Week for Action on NCDs activities have been recognised for ENOUGH. Campaign Fuel Awards. 

With the theme focused on NCDs and Universal Health Coverage, NCD alliances were encouraged to meaningfully engage key stakeholders including people living with NCDs (PLWNCDs), youth and other marginalised groups, and explore powerful and engaging campaign strategies to raise awareness of the needs of their communities. 

Ten alliances were awarded ENOUGH. Campaign Fuel awards for carefully planned and orchestrated 2019 Global Week for Action on NCDs activities, all effectively engaging PLWNCDs in media outreach, community awareness and screening, and high level meetings with policy makers. The awards will support the alliances’ ongoing campaign efforts. The 2019 ENOUGH. Campaign Fuel Awards were made possible thanks to NCD Alliance’s partnership with Access Accelerated to support the meaningful involvement of people living with NCDs. 

The 10 alliances receiving the 2019 ENOUGH. Campaign Fuel Award were:

• Cameroon Civil Society NCD Alliance mobilised youth and PLWNCDs in a social media campaign, press briefing, community walk and dancing activities, and disseminated information through a health talk, flyers & screening.

• Coalition MNT-Togo engaged the Togolese media through radio and press conferences on NCDs and UHC, with a young person sharing insights about living with diabetes. 

• Egyptian NCD Alliance coordinated workplace wellness activities and social media, radio and television advocacy, with PLWNCDs calling for action to promote their health. 100 people’s health was checked and awareness raised with expert-led information and sport sessions. 

• Ghana NCD Alliance held a national high level meeting on NCDs and a press conference in lead up to the UN High Level Meeting on UHC, with the Ministry of Health, PLWNCDs and other advocates, and a meet the press opportunity.

• Healthy India Alliance’s activities spanned the week, with educational and physical activities led by youth and PLWNCDs in schools and communities, together with media outreach and participation in the WHO South East Asia Regional Coordinating Meeting.

• NCD Alliance Kenya held a community fun day with physical activities, awareness raising of NCD risk and care and screening. 

• NCD Alliance Lanka’s community engagement activities declared ENOUGH. NCDs, with PLWNCDs and other advocates engaging in media outreach, community health screening, community talks and awareness raising.

• Rwanda NCDs Alliance engaged media, youth and PLWNCDs in an NCD workshop, car free day, community health screening & awareness activities, an advocacy meeting with stakeholders, and TV & radio talk show.

• South African NCDs Alliance held a community event in Soweto, with a fun walk and health screening prioritising integration with testing and awareness raising for NCDs and HIV, and among less reached communities such as farmers, PLWNCDs and HIV. 

• Tanzania NCD Alliance held advocacy meetings with regional, district and hospital medical officers focused on health systems with UHC and NCDs advocacy.

We congratulate these alliances on their impressive efforts in 2019, and look forward to the wider NCD movement’s ongoing engagement in annual Global Weeks for Action on NCDs.
